Miyamoto Musashi Arguably the most famous Samurai in history, Musashi's life is surrounded more by legend than fact. There is a well-known teaching in the ryu regarding Musashi's role in HNIR today: "Before Musashi there was no Musashi... Our practice is done earnestly, with the understanding that while it is impossible to reinvent him, every day we practice we get one step closer to Musashi. Like the practice of modern budo, we study HNIR kenjutsu to improve ourselves, continuing with the understanding of Musashi in his later life when his mindset changed from satsujinken to katsujinken.
