About Us - Dojo History

Heijoshin dojo was set up by Scott Halls to expand the practice of Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu kenjutsu and Seitei / MJER iaido in the Midlands/South Staffordshire areas.

Scott has been a member of the British Kendo Association's GB iaido team for six years, currently holds the rank of yondan (4th-dan) iai and is a BKA registered iaido coach. He has been involved in martial arts since 1984, starting out in karate and jujutsu before discovering the Japanese sword arts. Scott also practices Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu kenjutsu with Iwami Toshio Sensei, the 11th Soke of the ryu, both at Iwami Soke's dojo in Kitakyushu, Japan and at seminars abroad. He has practiced kenjutsu for the past seven years. Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu is practiced under the 'Dosokai' concept - everyone is a student. No grades or belts are offered in the modern sense - only an opportunity to practice the kenjutsu as given to us by Musashi Sensei.

Heijoshin Dojo is fortunate to enjoy the support of a number of high-graded teachers in the BKA, maintaining ties with various dojo - both locally and nationwide. Many of our members attend seminars in the UK & worldwide and we have close links with our sensei in Japan.
